Welcome to the Smithy Cottage. Located in Poldark country, Smithy Cottage sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty close to the coast and iconic Land’s End in the peaceful hamlet of Polgigga. Surrounded by open farmland, this adorable traditional cottage is less than 2 miles from Porthgwarra Beach, a famous filming location for the BBC’s TV series ‘Poldark’. It is superbly located for ramblers, romantics, beach lovers, birdwatchers, and cyclists, and offers a cosy and welcoming environment, sitting in a roadside position next to the friendly owner’s home.
Once inside, the accommodation is designed with couples and families in mind. Downstairs is the living/dining room, separate well-equipped kitchen, and a large shower room, the ideal place for washing off the sand after a trip to the beach. Two bedrooms and a family bathroom are on the first floor. The decked patio garden at the rear is well screened from view, sheltered and ideal for al fresco meals. Follow the garden path through a gate to a pretty pond, where the ducks are friendly as is the resident goose, Gerald.
There is so much to do in the area, with Porthcurno just over a mile away; not only does it have a stunning beach but has fantastic views from the cliff top where you may be lucky to see a Basking shark, or seals. It is home to the open-air Minack Theatre constructed above a gully with a rocky granite outcrop jutting into the sea, performances run from May to September with booking in advance recommended. The area has a lot of history with the nearest town of St Just having a beautiful church and several monuments and prehistoric antiquities, including a Bronze Age Settlement at Cape Cornwall. It is also home to Cape Cornwall Golf Club and the remains of Botallack mine, Geevor tin mine, where you can walk the Cornish coast path admiring the outstanding scenery. Penzance is the largest town in this area, with galleries, shops, and restaurants, dotted along the windy streets.
