Just along the road from the River Tweed on the English side of the border lies the village of Cornhill-on-Tweed, a small yet historically important border village steeped in history, a proper little village with a pub which serves yummy food and has a really friendly welcoming atmosphere.
The Birdcage sits right in the centre of the village yet occupies a peaceful private position. The property is ideally suited to families and has accommodation all on the one ground floor level. There are three bedrooms with two of them, a double bed and a single room having the option to link via an internal door - ideal for parents and smaller children. The main principal bedroom offers guests a touch of luxury with a double bed, wall-mounted TV and en-suite shower room which resembles something from a boutique hotel. The living space in the property, namely the living room and conservatory are ideal for relaxing, general day-to-day activities and playing family games. The open fire will be a welcome addition to those afternoons and evenings spent indoors when it’s a bit chilly outside. The well-equipped kitchen has a dining table and chairs and is perfect for the preparation and enjoying of family meals. The utility room where the additional appliances are found is excellent for returning back with muddy boots, muddy children and muddy dogs.
Locally there are plenty of amenities, some within gentle walking distance too. As mentioned, the pub in the village does serve food and nearby Coldstream, over on the Scottish side of the River Tweed has several shops, pubs, restaurants and lots of history to investigate. What’s surprising about this location is the proximity to both Edinburgh and Newcastle - both can be reached within an hour by car, not forgetting all the beautiful villages, towns and attractions that are even closer. The Northumbrian coastline for example, with towns like Berwick and Bamburgh and picture-perfect beaches like the one at Goswick, are excellent days out for all the family and is some 20 -25 minutes’ drive. Beach 13¾ miles. Pub and restaurant 350 yards.
