This wonderful property is quite literally an old bakery, renovated in 2021 with your comfort in mind. It still boasts its original bread oven and can easily accommodate a couple for a romantic getaway or a family of four. There is a communal courtyard to the front of the property and a rear terrace for guests to use. 300 yards away you’ll find Spittal’s promenade and sandy beach, where dolphins, seals and whales are reguarly seen.
The Old Bakery is located in the heart of old Spittal, Berwick upon Tweed, England’s most northerly town, sitting halfway between Edinburgh and Newcastle. Berwick upon Tweed is on the Great North A1 Road, so arriving by car is simple. The London North East Railway London to Edinburgh mainline stops at Berwick upon Tweed’s station, a short distance away. Berwick is very easy to reach and is a great base from which to explore Northumberland, its fantastic coastline, Northumberland National Park, the Cheviots and many castles. With dark skies, exceptional walking, cycling and scenic drives, you will have plenty to do when you visit.
Berwick upon Tweed is an ancient walled garrison town which as the King’s Own Scottish Borderers Museum, a pier and lighthouse, the Maltings Theatre and cinema, its own castle ruins and ramparts, various galleries, restaurants and bars. It also has the unmissable Lowry Trail and the Tweed and Coast Nature Trail. Dolphins, seals and otters are often seen offshore and up the Tweed River. Regular dolphin trips are run around Spittal Bay and up the coast. From Spittal beach you can see down the coast to Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island and the Farne Islands, all within easy reach, together with Alnwick Castle, of Harry Potter fame.
