Crosskeys Cottage

Crosskeys Cottage is just outside Helensburgh. It's detached and made from thick stone, which keeps it cool in summer and holds the heat from the fire in winter. It's been done up inside so everything works and feels clean. It sleeps two.

You get your own bit of garden out the front. It's got a table, chairs and a BBQ. The view looks south over grassy fields towards the hills.

The cottage is rated 4 Star. I think that's fair. It's comfortable and has what you need. There's one bedroom upstairs. The stairs are a typical cottage staircase though, so they're steep and a bit narrow.

You're about two miles from Loch Lomond itself. There's a cycle path that runs right past the cottage. You can follow it east to the loch or west into Helensburgh town. Both are a flat, easy ride or a short drive.

Helensburgh has shops, places to eat, and a train station if you fancy a day in Glasgow without the car. For a bigger supermarket, you'd go to Dumbarton or Clydebank.

You're right on the edge of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. You can drive up the west side of the loch to Luss or keep going to the top end near Crianlarich. The National Trust for Scotland's Hill House in Helensburgh is worth a look if you like architecture.

Inside, there's a wood burner, a washing machine, WiFi and a TV. All the bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need it. You can bring up to two dogs.

The cottage is available on its own, but if you're coming with more people, there's a bigger house called Glenfruin Lodge nearby that you can book together with it.
