The Barn is in the small village of Walpole. Suffolk’s coastline and gently rolling countryside inland are easily accessible from the village. There are numerous footpaths from the village and the roads are ideal for getting out on a bicycle. The area over to the coast is within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the beaches at Dunwich and Sizewell, along with the RSPB nature reserve at Minsmere, are wonderful places to explore and see the wide variety of flora and fauna that are distinct to this part of the country. There are a number of good restaurants and independent food shops in nearby Halesworth, a bustling market town. Events abound in this corner of Suffolk.
You might like to visit the Oasis Camel Park just outside Halesworth or set out on a boat in Thorpeness to explore Peter Pan’s world on the Meare. Castles and fortifications along the coast tell the story of how the land was defended throughout history. There are many Martello towers along the coast that were built to defend the coastline from Napoleonic invasions, and Orford has a huge keep with spectacular views. When you have been out and about you can return to the peace and quiet of your cosy barn and enjoy relaxing in front of a warming fire or enjoying the sunshine in the large garden. Beach 10 miles. Pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
