The Corn Mill
The Corn Mill is in Branthwaite, a small village. It's a converted mill from around 1700, so you can see the old beams and some of the stonework. It's attached to our house on one side, but you'd only see us if you needed something.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and clean. It's not a show home. The walls have the original stone in places, so they're not perfectly smooth. It’s over the River Marron, so you get the sound of the water. There’s a small patio area out the front with a barbecue.
The road is quiet. There’s a pub about five minutes walk down the lane. For a shop, you’d need to drive a couple of miles.
You’re just on the edge of the Lake District. Loweswater is about ten minutes drive. Crummock Water is a bit further. They're good for a walk or a picnic without the crowds you get in the bigger spots.
Cockermouth is four miles away. It has shops, cafes and pubs if you want a meal out. Keswick is about twenty minutes in the car if you want a busier day. The coast at Allonby or St Bees is within half an hour.
Facilities wise: there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking for one car. Bedding and towels are included. We can put a cot and highchair in if you need them. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
