The Shore

The Shore is in Fortrose on the Black Isle. It's a cottage right on the shore of the Moray Firth. You can see the water from the front windows.

It sleeps six people. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms. It's a 4 Star property, which means it's modern and comfortable inside. The layout is straightforward. You get parking on the gravel at the front.

The cottage is on a quiet road. The centre of Fortrose is a five minute walk up the lane. There's a good, modern cafe-bar there called IV10, and a golf course. The old cathedral ruins are worth a look. The local sailing club is based at the small harbour.

The main thing is the location by the sea. You can see dolphins sometimes from the cottage, though Chanonry Point, just along the coast, is the famous spot for watching them. It's a short walk or drive. There's a sandy beach at Rosemarkie, about a mile north.

In terms of getting out, Inverness is twenty minutes away by car for shops and more restaurants. For walking, you have the Black Isle trails on your doorstep. Trailheads for bigger hills are within half an hour. The Cairngorms National Park is about 45 minutes' drive if you want to go further.

Inside, it's got a woodburning stove, a washing machine, a dishwasher, and WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot if you need one. The garden is small and paved, but it's private and gets the sun. No pets, sorry.

If you're planning walks or days out, the National Trust for Scotland website is useful for properties in the area, and the Walkhighlands site is good for route ideas.
