Modbury has a shop, a pub, and a restaurant about a hundred yards away. The coast is five miles. Salcombe, Bigbury-on-Sea, and the Erme Estuary are all within about a twenty minute drive.
For walks, the South West Coast Path is nearby. You can get to Dartmoor National Park in roughly half an hour. If you're planning trips, the National Trust Devon and Dartmoor National Park websites are useful.
