Rowan Cottage
Rowan Cottage is in Catshaw, on the edge of the Peak District. It's a converted 17th century barn. The views are very good, out over the moors.
It's one of four cottages here. You all share the gardens, which are big. There's also a tennis court and a shared Finnish barbecue hut. The main thing is the spa. It's on site and you get use of it. Steam rooms, saunas, a mud room, that sort of thing. There's also an outdoor wood-fired hot tub.
The cottage itself sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both ensuite, which is handy. It's got a 5 Star rating. That means it's well finished and comfortable. The beams and stonework are original. It's clean and warm.
You can bring two dogs. There's a bike storage shed if you need it. All the usual stuff is included: bedding, towels, washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi. The parking is right outside.
The Trans Pennine Trail runs right past the place, so walking and cycling from the door is easy. Plenty of reservoirs and moorland tracks about. The nearest shop and pub are a mile and a half away in Holmfirth. There's a restaurant about half a mile down the lane.
Holmfirth is the main local town. It's got shops and cafes. For a bigger day out, Bakewell is about half an hour's drive. Chatsworth House is roughly the same. You can get to Sheffield, Leeds, or Manchester in around 40 minutes if you need a city.
