The Cottage

The Cottage is in Upper Midhope, a hamlet near Stocksbridge. It's a converted barn on a working farm, so you'll see sheep in the field next door. It's detached. You get your own garden bit out the back with a patio and lawn, which gets the sun in the morning.

It sleeps five. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. Two doubles and one single. It's got a 4 Star rating. The place has been done up recently so everything feels quite new and clean. The main room is open plan, kitchen and living area together. All the appliances work. The shower is good, powerful.

The owners live in the house opposite. They're there if you need anything but they leave you alone.

There's a pub about a 15 minute walk away, down the lane. They do food. A cafe too. For a proper shop, you need to drive to Stocksbridge. It's about 10 minutes.

You're on the edge of the Peak District. Walks start from the door. Langsett Reservoir is close for a circular walk. For a day out, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is about 20 minutes drive. Holmfirth, where they filmed Last of the Summer Wine, is 15 minutes. Sheffield city centre is about half an hour if you want shops or a night out.

Other good places within 30 minutes are Ladybower Reservoir, Bakewell, and the Hope Valley for walking. The Peak District National Park Authority website has maps and ideas.

Inside, there's a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, and parking right outside. All bedding and towels are provided. No pets.
