Snooty Fox Cottage is in Hexham, about a mile and a half from the town centre. It's next to our house, on the edge of the racecourse grounds. You get your own garden and it's quiet, with a view over the fields.
It sleeps two, with one bedroom and one bathroom. It's a 5 Star place. That means it's well-finished. There's underfloor heating and a woodburning stove. The bed is a zip-and-link, so it can be a super king or two twins.
You're on one level, which is handy. The living area has French doors out to the garden. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a washing machine. There's parking for two cars.
You can bring one dog. The garden is enclosed.
Hexham has the usual things: shops, pubs, a few restaurants. There's a leisure centre with a pool. The theatre is good. For a walk, you can follow the paths from here along the river or onto the racecourse.
You're in the middle of Hadrian's Wall country. Housesteads Fort is about a 20 minute drive. So is Vindolanda. Both are worth a visit. Corbridge is about ten minutes away by car.
Newcastle is 25 minutes down the road if you want a city day. The coast, like Craster or Alnwick, is about a 45 minute drive. For wider planning, Northumberland National Park and Visit Northumberland have good information.
It's a comfortable base. Good for a couple wanting to explore or just to sit by the fire.
