The Racecourse Lodge

The Racecourse Lodge is on the actual Hexham Racecourse, right by the track. It's a lodge, not a cottage. All on one level, so no stairs to worry about.

It sleeps six, in three twin rooms. They all have the same view over the fields. There are two shower rooms, which is handy.

The living area is compact. There's a sofa and a table that extends out. The kitchen has what you need for basics: an oven, fridge, microwave. To be honest, you're so close to Hexham you'll probably eat out a lot. The town has plenty of pubs and cafes.

You're about two miles from the centre of Hexham. There's a shop, pub, and restaurant about the same distance away. The racecourse itself is up on a hill, 600 feet above the town, so the views are good. They have about fifteen race meetings a year. You can see the track from the property.

For walking or cycling, you're right on the edge of things. Paths lead straight off from here into the town and the wider countryside.

Hadrian's Wall is a short drive north, maybe 15-20 minutes. You can visit the forts like Housesteads or Chesters. Corbridge is close by too, for a wander and a coffee.

Further afield, you can get to Newcastle or the Metrocentre in about 40 minutes. The Northumberland coast, like Alnwick or Bamburgh, is over an hour's drive.

Facilities: it's got parking right outside, WiFi, a TV, and all bedding and towels are included. The rating is 3 Star, which is about right. It's comfortable and clean. No pets allowed.
