Silvergrove Cottage

Silvergrove Cottage is an annexe on the edge of Newick village. I call it a cottage, but it's really a modern, self-contained flat built next to my house. It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom.

It's got a 4 Star rating. That just means it's well-equipped and tidy. The main room is open-plan, with the kitchen, a dining table, and a sofa. The ceiling is high, which makes it feel bigger. The underfloor heating is good when it's cold.

The bedroom area has a king-size bed and big windows that look onto the patio. The blinds are electric. The bathroom is a wet-room style, so the shower is in the corner. It's fine.

Outside, there's a private patio with a table and chairs. It gets the afternoon sun. You can park right at the front. There's also an electric vehicle charger if you need it.

You can walk into Newick in about ten minutes. There's a shop and a couple of pubs. For a proper walk, you can go straight onto Chailey Common from the door. It's a big heathland.

Sheffield Park is a five-minute drive away. It's a National Trust place with a nice garden and a lake. You can sometimes hear the steam trains from the Bluebell Railway. Wakehurst, which is run by Kew Gardens, is about twenty minutes away. Lewes is fifteen minutes by car. It's an old town with a castle, some good cafes, and the River Ouse running through it.

Brighton is about half an hour if you want the sea and the city. It's straight down the A275.

Inside, it has a dishwasher, a fridge-freezer, WiFi, and a TV with Sky and Netflix. All bedding and towels are included. No pets, I'm afraid.
