Old Highwood - Piggy in the Middle is in Dunkeswell, Devon. It’s part of a row of converted barns, so it’s mid-terraced. You get your own garden at the back. It’s south facing and looks out over fields to some woods.
It sleeps five, in three bedrooms, with one bathroom. It’s a 4 Star property, which means it’s been done up to a good, modern standard. Everything is fairly new.
The main room is open plan. Kitchen, dining area, and a corner sofa in the living space. The stairs are at one end. They’re normal stairs, not a ladder or anything.
The garden is enclosed. There’s a patio with seating and a lawn. It gets the sun for most of the day. There’s a charcoal BBQ out there.
The place is on a working farm. You’ll see cattle in the fields. There are also some chickens wandering about. Sometimes the owners can provide fresh eggs and jam when you arrive, if you ask ahead.
Because it’s in the countryside, it’s dark at night. You can see the stars clearly. There’s a telescope in the cottage if you want to use it. You’ll probably hear owls.
Dunkeswell village is about a five minute drive. It has a shop, a chippy, an Indian restaurant, and a bar. The airfield there is the highest licensed one in the UK. They do skydives.
Honiton is ten minutes away by car. That’s where the bigger supermarkets are, like Tesco and Waitrose. Lots of antique shops too.
The coast is roughly half an hour’s drive. Sidmouth, Seaton, Beer, and Branscombe are all in that direction. Exmouth has a long sandy beach.
For local attractions, there’s The Donkey Sanctuary near Sidmouth, which is free. The Blackdown Hills National Landscape website has good walking routes. If you head towards the coast, the Jurassic Coast site has information on the area.
Facilities include a dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi, and TV. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and a highchair. Parking is right outside. No pets, sorry.
