Old Highwood - Piglet Cottage

This is Old Highwood, Piglet Cottage. It's near Dunkeswell in the Blackdown Hills. It's a converted barn, mid-terrace. The main house is attached on one side, we live there. On the other side is a cattle farm, so you'll see and hear the cows. It's a working farm.

The cottage sleeps five. Three bedrooms upstairs: one king, one double, one single. One bathroom with a shower. It's a 4 Star place. It's newly done, so it's clean and everything works. The stairs are a typical cottage style, a bit steep.

Downstairs is all open plan: kitchen, dining, living area. It's a bright room. The back garden is yours. There's a lawn, a patio with seating, a barbecue, and a six-seater hot tub. It gets the sun and looks out over the fields to some woods. We keep chickens in the grounds. If you like, we can leave you some fresh eggs and homemade jam when you arrive.

You'll hear owls at night. Sometimes deer come into the fields. Because there's not much light pollution, the stars are very clear on a good night. We've left a telescope in the cottage if you want a closer look.

Dunkeswell village is about five minutes by car. There's a shop, an Indian restaurant, a bar, and a fish and chip shop. The airfield here is the highest licensed one in the UK. You can watch the light aircraft, or they do skydives if that's your thing.

Honiton is ten minutes away. That's your proper market town with supermarkets, antique shops, and a few places to eat.

The coast is about half an hour's drive. Branscombe, Beer, Sidmouth, Seaton. Exmouth has a long sandy beach. Inland, there's The Donkey Sanctuary, Crealy, or the Bear Trail for kids.

Facilities: there's parking, WiFi, a TV, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and highchair. No pets, sorry.

Some useful links: Blackdown Hills National Landscape for walking, and Jurassic Coast for the coastline.
