Beck Cottage is in Croasdale, near Ennerdale in the Lake District. It's a detached stone cottage right next to a small beck. The owners live in the farmhouse next door and keep ducks and chickens that wander about.
It sleeps six but in two triple rooms. That's fine for a family or two couples who don't mind sharing, but the bedrooms are big rooms with three beds in each, not three separate rooms. There's one bathroom. It has a 4 Star rating. The heating comes from a biomass boiler and solar panels.
The living room has a multi-fuel burner. There's a conservatory at the back. Red squirrels come to feeders right outside the conservatory window, you'll see them most days. At night, it gets very dark because there's no light pollution, so the stars are clear.
You're on the edge of a smallholding with woodland. You can walk along the beck from the garden. It's very quiet.
The nearest pub, shop, and restaurant are about two miles away in Ennerdale Bridge. For a proper lake, Ennerdale Water is a mile or so down the valley. It's a good, wild walking route right from the door. You're also on the Coast to Coast path.
Buttermere, Crummock Water, and Loweswater are within a 20-30 minute drive. For bigger fells, you're close to the Red Pike and High Stile range. Whitehaven, for supermarkets and the harbour, is about 10 miles away.
Facilities include a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and parking. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if needed. No pets.
