New Cottage

New Cottage is in Penmaenpool, on the south side of the Mawddach estuary. It's a terraced cottage, right next to the old wooden toll bridge. You can see the bridge from the front. The view is across the water towards the hills.

It sleeps six, with three bedrooms upstairs and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. The living room has a wood burner, which is good for colder evenings. There's a separate dining room. The stairs are standard for a cottage of this age.

At the back, there's a secure utility building with a washing machine and tumble dryer. It's handy for hanging up wet gear or storing bikes. You've got a small garden to sit out in.

The local pub, the George III, is about a three-minute walk away. It's right on the water. They serve food. There's also an RSPB bird hide next to the bridge if you're interested in that.

The main thing here is the location for walking and cycling. The Mawddach Trail goes right past the cottage. It's a flat track along the old railway line, perfect for bikes or a straightforward walk. You can follow it to Dolgellau one way or towards Barmouth the other.

Dolgellau is about three miles away. It's a market town with shops, cafes, and a few pubs. Barmouth is about seven miles. It's a traditional seaside town with a long beach and a pier. The Fairbourne and Talyllyn steam railways are both within a 20-minute drive if you like that sort of thing.

For a bigger day out, you're right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park. Cadair Idris is the closest big mountain, about a 15-minute drive to the start of the paths. The beaches around Tywyn and Fairbourne are about a 20-minute drive.

In terms of what's here, you've got parking, WiFi, TV, all bedding and towels included, and the wood for the burner. One well-behaved dog is welcome.
