Dol Y Clochydd is an old farmhouse on the edge of Llanelltyd. It's detached and sits right by the river Mawddach. You get the place to yourself.
It sleeps eight, has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, so it's a decent size for a group or a couple of families. We keep it at a 4 Star standard, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped. The garden is big and fully enclosed, which is handy if you've got dogs or kids. There's private access to the riverbank for fishing.
The living room is large, with a wood burner at one end. There are two seating areas, which people seem to like. It leads straight out to the garden. The dining room has another wood burner and big windows looking out at the hills.
Things to know: the WiFi is good. There are two TVs with the usual streaming services. It's all on one level except for one bedroom and a bathroom, which are up a flight of stairs. The stairs are standard, not a spiral or anything. We leave a cot and highchair there if you need them. You can bring up to three pets.
The location is the main point. You're in a valley just below the Precipice Walk. The views are excellent. You can walk straight out from the house. For more organised walking or mountain biking, Coed y Brenin Forest is a few minutes away by car.
Dolgellau is about three miles. It's a proper Welsh town with good shops and cafes. The Mawddach Trail runs from there to Barmouth along the old railway. It's flat and ideal for cycling. Barmouth has a big sandy beach and the famous bridge. It's about a twenty minute drive.
If you like the old narrow gauge railways, you're in a good spot. The Talyllyn, Bala Lake, and Ffestiniog railways are all within a 30 minute drive. For something different, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are about half an hour away.
