The Wee Nunnery is in Skelmorlie, right on the coast. It’s a semi-detached house, attached to The Old Nunnery next door. The place sleeps fourteen, in five bedrooms. There's three bathrooms.
It’s got a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. It’s spacious, but not a palace. It’s better suited to a large family or a group of friends than to a quiet couple’s break.
There are fantastic views out over the Firth of Clyde from the front of the house. You can walk to the shore in a couple of minutes. There’s a patio and garden at the back. The hot tub fits six people.
Inside, the layout is mostly on the ground floor. There’s a wheelchair-accessible entrance and the thresholds are level, which is good for people with mobility issues.
The village shop is a ten-minute walk away. The pub is about the same. They’re both functional. For a proper restaurant, you’ll need to drive to Largs, which is a few miles down the coast. Largs has a decent promenade, shops, and a ferry over to the Isle of Cumbrae.
The Ayrshire Coastal Path starts in the village if you want to go for a walk. You can get ferries from Largs or further down the coast to Arran and Bute. Culzean Castle and its country park are about a forty-minute drive south. It’s a National Trust site with brilliant grounds and beaches to explore. National Trust for Scotland Culzean.
If you want a day trip, Glasgow is under an hour by car. Edinburgh is about an hour and a half.
Facilities wise: there’s a washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, TV, and parking on site. Bedding and towels are included. We can provide a cot and a highchair. Two well-behaved dogs are welcome. There’s bicycle storage. It’s decorated for Christmas if you book over that period.
