Knock Old Castle is in Largs, on the Ayrshire coast. It’s a real castle from the 14th century that’s been restored. It sleeps eight, with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. It’s got a 5 Star rating, which means it’s high spec.
It’s a unique place. The doors and walls are all a bit crooked. There’s a sauna up in one of the towers. The roof has wild flowers growing on it, and sheep sometimes graze up there. There's a glass-domed lookout with good views over the water.
The castle is set privately, about 200 yards from our house. You can walk down to the shore. Largs town is close, about a mile and a half away, with shops, a promenade, and places to eat.
There’s a woodburning stove, a BBQ, and a garden. Parking is on site. It has a dishwasher and washing machine. Bedding and towels are included. WiFi and TV are there. You can bring up to two pets.
You’re well placed for ferries. You can get to the Isle of Cumbrae, Arran, and Bute easily. Dunoon and the Cowal Peninsula are a ferry ride away, which gets you close to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
The Ayrshire Coastal Path starts nearby at Skelmorlie. Culzean Castle and Country Park is about a half hour’s drive south, good for walks. There are famous golf courses like Troon and Turnberry within half an hour. Glasgow and Edinburgh are both about an hour away by car or train.
