Garradh An Fhasaich is a cottage on Skye, in Glen Dale. It's attached to a smallholding. The name is Gaelic. It means Garden of the Wilderness. There's about nine acres of garden and woodland wrapped around it. We've planted a lot of it ourselves.
The cottage sleeps three. Three bedrooms, one bathroom. It's a 3 Star place, so it's comfortable but not luxury. It's got thick walls and small windows, like a lot of older houses here. The kitchen door opens straight out to the garden.
The living room has an open fire. The garden isn't fenced right around the cottage, but it's very private. You're on a little plateau. There's a bench a few steps from the front door where you can sit and look down your own bit of woodland to the river, and out to sea. You can see across to North Uist.
It's quiet. You feel a bit isolated, which is the point. You'll hear birds, not traffic. The road is there, but the place is sunken and tree-lined so you don't notice it.
Neist Point Lighthouse is about a ten minute drive. Dunvegon Castle and Coral Beach are a bit further. You can get to the Quiraing or the Old Man of Storr in under half an hour.
There's a village shop about a mile away. More shops and places to eat are in Dunvegon, seven miles off.
For facilities: there's parking, a washing machine, WiFi, a cot and highchair if needed. Bedding and towels are included. It says it's wheelchair accessible at the entrance. You can bring up to two dogs.
