Pistyll Gwyn
Pistyll Gwyn is an old stone barn on our sheep farm near Llanwrthwl. It's a five-star place, but really it's just a big, solid, comfortable house for a group. It sleeps ten.
All five bedrooms have their own bathroom, which is handy. One bedroom is downstairs. The stairs aren't bad. The main room is the kitchen and dining area. It's big and has a long table. The view from there is just fields and hills.
There's underfloor heating everywhere, so it's warm. A wood burner in the living room makes it cosy. There's a utility room with a washer and space for boots and wet dogs. You can bring two pets.
Getting here is up a farm track. It's not a problem for normal cars, just take it steady. You're on a working farm, so you'll see sheep and sometimes farm vehicles.
The nearest proper shop is about a mile away in Rhayader. That's the local town, five minutes by car. It has cafes, pubs, and a small supermarket. The Elan Valley is a ten-minute drive. That's the main thing. The reservoirs and dams are impressive, and the walking or cycling is great. Elan Valley has a visitor centre with a cafe and maps.
For a day out, Llandrindod Wells is about twenty minutes south. Builth Wells is a bit further, where the Royal Welsh Showground is. If you want mountains, the edge of the Brecon Beacons is within half an hour.
Outside, there's a enclosed garden with a patio and a BBQ. You can store bikes. There's plenty of parking right by the barn.
