This is Offa's Dyke Lodge. It's on our farm in Stanner, up in the hills near the English border. You're on a working farm here, so there are sheep and cattle in the fields. The views from up here are very good, looking out over the valley.
The lodge sleeps six people. Three bedrooms and one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well-equipped.
You should know about the access. You park your car below the property, then there's an uphill walk to the lodge itself, followed by about six steps up to the front door. It opens straight into the main living area. It's all open plan inside. The patio doors lead out onto a balcony, which is the best spot for the view.
The place has a woodburning stove for cooler nights, and the heating and electricity are included. There's WiFi, a washing machine, and a dishwasher. The bedding and towels are provided. The garden area is enclosed, which is handy if you're bringing dogs. We take up to three pets.
There's a games room on the farm that guests can use. It's shared with the other two holiday lodges here. You can book all three together if you've got a bigger group.
For things to do, you're right on the doorstep of some great walking. Offa's Dyke Path is obviously the big one. The market town of Kington is a few miles away. It's got pubs, restaurants, a couple of takeaways. Hergest Croft Gardens are there, and there's a small breeds farm park which kids tend to like.
Hay-on-Wye is about a twenty-five minute drive. That's the town with all the bookshops and the festival. Ludlow, with its castle and food markets, is just over half an hour's drive. You can get to the coast at Aberystwyth in under an hour if you fancy that.
