Bats About

Bats About is a shepherd's hut at Lady Hall, up near Broughton in Furness. It's for two people. It's off grid, purpose-built to be environmentally friendly. The shower runs on collected rainwater, there's a composting loo, and the power is from solar panels. It's all quite basic but it works.

The hut is small and open plan. There's a double bed, a gas hob, a fridge, and a sink. You can heat things up on top of the wood burner if you need to. It's warm and dry.

The main thing is the spot. It's tucked into the edge of a wood. You'll see deer and birds. The view looks out over the Duddon Estuary, which is really quite something. There's a wood-fired hot tub outside.

It's very quiet. The nearest pub is about a mile down the lane in the hamlet. For a shop, you'd drive to Broughton-in-Furness or Millom.

If you want to get out, the Cumbrian Coastal Way path runs along the bottom of the hill. Coniston Water and Windermere are both about half an hour's drive away for boat trips or kayaking. Ulverston is a nice market town about twenty minutes away.

Everything you need for the bed and towels is here. There's parking right by the hut. Sorry, no pets.
