Cuckoo Lodge is on Merbach Hill, about five miles from Hay-on-Wye. It's a new build, finished last year, and it's detached. You get your own deck with a hot tub. The view from there is over fields and hills, nothing in the way.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms and one bathroom, all on the same level so there are no stairs. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's clean and modern, with things like underfloor heating. The main room has big folding doors that open right onto the deck.
The Castlefields Country Inn is about sixty yards away. They do food and you can book a table. It's handy.
Hay-on-Wye is the main thing locally. It's about a ten-minute drive. Full of bookshops, cafes, and a few decent places to eat. The festival is in May but it's busy all year. For walking, you're right on the edge of the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons. Offa's Dyke Path is close by. You can drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park in under half an hour.
Hereford is about twenty minutes by car if you need a bigger supermarket or want to see the cathedral. Ross-on-Wye is a bit closer in the other direction.
In terms of what's here: there's parking right outside, a BBQ, WiFi, and a wood burner. Bedding and towels are included. You can bring one dog. There's a cot and a highchair if you need them. The garden is enclosed but it's not massive, just the deck area really.
A couple of useful links if you're looking into days out: National Trust Herefordshire & Gloucestershire and Brecon Beacons National Park.
