The place is called Badgers Den. It's near Hay-on-Wye on a working farm, so you'll see sheep and hear tractors. It's a single-storey barn conversion, so everything's on one level. You park right outside the door.
It's for two people. One bedroom with a very big bed. The shower room is en-suite, it's a wet room with grab rails.
Inside, there's a living area with a sofa, a TV, and WiFi. The sofa pulls out into a double bed if you need it, but it's really meant for two. There's a kitchenette with a fridge and a hob, but no oven. You get a microwave instead. It's got heating and the electricity is included.
Outside the front door there's a decked area with a table and chairs. You can sit there with a drink. The view is over the fields.
You're about three miles from a decent pub that does food. Hay-on-Wye is a ten minute drive. Obviously it's known for books. The festival is in May, so it gets very busy then. The rest of the year it's much quieter. Hay Castle is worth a look.
For walking, you're right on the edge of the Black Mountains. You can drive up to the car park for Hay Bluff in under fifteen minutes and walk from there. National Trust Brecon Beacons has some good route ideas. Hereford is about half an hour away if you need a bigger shop or want to see the cathedral.
In terms of facilities, bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if needed. We allow up to two well-behaved dogs. The place is wheelchair accessible, but the terrain outside is farm land, so it's grassy and uneven.
That's about it. It's clean, comfortable, and quiet. A good base.
