Swallow Lodge

Swallow Lodge is in Merbach, five miles from Hay-on-Wye. It's a brand new place, finished in 2023, so everything feels fresh. It's single storey, so everything's on the ground floor.

It's for two people. One bedroom, one bathroom. There's an open-plan living area with doors that open onto a private deck. The deck's got lighting for the evenings and, of course, the hot tub. We've put a couple of bathrobes in there for you.

The deck area is enclosed, which is good if you're bringing a dog. That's allowed, one pet.

Being new, it's got a 4 Star rating. You've got Wi-Fi and a TV. Parking is right outside.

For things to do, Hay-on-Wye is the big one nearby, about a ten-minute drive. It's all bookshops, cafes, and a few nice places to eat. Good for a wander. If you walk, you're right near the Herefordshire Trail and Offa's Dyke. The River Wye isn't far for canoeing or fishing.

You're also well placed for a drive out. It's about half an hour to the Brecon Beacons or the Black Mountains. Hereford and Ross-on-Wye are both within twenty-five minutes or so if you need more shops. There are a few National Trust properties around if that's your thing, like Skenfrith Castle.

One thing to know is there are a couple of other lodges nearby. This one is detached. Swallow Lodge and Cuckoo Lodge can be booked together if you're coming with another couple.

Useful links: the Brecon Beacons National Park site has walking info, and National Trust Wales for the local properties.
