South Farm Cottage is near Halton Shields, Northumberland. It's a stone cottage that's quite old, from the 1700s. It used to be a cow shed. It's been done up well.
It sleeps four. Two bedrooms upstairs, one bathroom upstairs as well. It's got a 4 Star rating, so it's comfortable and everything works. The stairs are the original ones, so they're steep and a bit narrow in parts. Something to be aware of.
The living room is spacious. There's a stone fireplace and old beams. The kitchen is modern and has everything you need, including a dishwasher and washing machine. The garden is private, surrounded by a wall, so it’s good for sitting out.
You're quite rural here. There's a pub within walking distance. Corbridge is about a ten-minute drive away. It's a nice village with shops, pubs, and a butcher. You can get to Matfen about as quickly.
Within half an hour's drive you've got Hexham, with its abbey and market. For bigger history, Hadrian's Wall is all around you. You can be at the Housesteads Roman Fort in about twenty minutes. Newcastle city centre is about half an hour away if you want a day of shops or the theatre.
The coast at places like Tynemouth or Druridge Bay is also about a thirty to forty minute drive.
For planning trips, the official sites are good: National Trust North East and Hadrian's Wall Country.
Facilities: parking right by the cottage, WiFi, the garden, all bedding and electricity is included. No pets.
