This is the Reservoir House at Whittle Dene, just outside Welton. It's my place. It's a big, old house built in the 1840s right on the reservoir bank. All the windows face the water.
It sleeps six in three bedrooms and has one bathroom. It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well done and comfortable. It's full of character, but it is an old building. The layout is a bit unusual because of the tower.
The kitchen is a good size, with a range cooker and a proper coffee machine. There's a utility room with a washer and dryer for muddy clothes. Downstairs, the main rooms have the wood burner and views. There's also a small snug with a TV and a PlayStation.
Upstairs, the main bedroom has a big bathtub right in the window overlooking the reservoir. There's a dressing room and an en-suite toilet off it. The family bathroom is downstairs.
Outside, there's a big enclosed garden that goes right down to the water's edge. It's very quiet. There's a patio with furniture, a barbecue, and a hot tub. The driveway has space for three cars.
The reservoir itself is for coarse fishing if you have a permit. It's a nature reserve, so there's a lot of birdlife. There's a picnic spot and a bird hide. For walking, you can get onto sections of Hadrian's Wall from here. The National Trust looks after a lot of it.
In about half an hour you can drive to Hexham, which is a nice market town with an abbey. Corbridge is similar, with good shops and a river walk. The coast, like Alnmouth or Bamburgh, is under an hour away. Newcastle city centre is about 25 minutes by car if you want that.
Facilities wise: everything's included like bedding, towels, WiFi. There's a cot and highchair. You can bring two dogs. The local pub does food and is about three quarters of a mile away.
