White Horse Cottage
White Horse Cottage is in West Meon. It's a village about halfway between Winchester and Petersfield. The cottage sleeps ten, which is a lot. There are five bedrooms and two bathrooms. It's got a 4 Star rating.
The building is old. Parts of it are over 450 years old, so you get the beams and low doorways you'd expect. The stairs are a bit steep and narrow. It's just how it is.
The kitchen has a big farmhouse table that seats everyone. There's a proper living room with a wood burner and a smaller snug room with a TV. The garden is a decent size, enclosed, and looks out over fields and trees. You can park three cars. There's a shed for bikes.
You're a couple of minutes' walk from the village shop, a post office, a cafe, and a butcher. The pub, The Thomas Lord, is about the same distance. It does good food.
For walking, you're right in the South Downs National Park. The South Downs Way is on your doorstep. East Meon is three miles away and is nice for a stroll and a drink.
If you want to drive out, Winchester is about 20 minutes. Portsmouth, with the historic dockyard, is about 40 minutes. The coast at Hayling Island or the Witterings is roughly an hour. The New Forest is about 40 minutes away.
For facilities, you've got pretty much everything: washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, wood burner, BBQ, cot, highchair, that sort of thing. We take one well-behaved dog.
