Penny Black Cottage

Penny Black Cottage is in Thornton in Lonsdale. It's a one-bedroom cottage for two people. It's got a 4 Star rating. It's a cosy, solid little place.

The front door opens straight into the main living space, which has the kitchen, dining area and sofa. The bathroom is off there, and the bedroom is upstairs. The stairs are quite steep, which is just how they are in these old cottages. Everything you need is included: bedding, towels, WiFi, and there's parking right outside.

You've got an enclosed patio garden out the back with a table and chairs. It gets the sun in the afternoon. You can bring one dog.

The location is good for getting about. You're right between the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland. Ingleton is a couple of minutes down the road. They've got shops, cafes, and the start of the Waterfalls Walk. White Scar Cave is about five minutes away if you want to go underground.

For a day out, you can drive up to Ribblehead Viaduct in about fifteen minutes to see the Settle to Carlisle railway. The southern Lake District, like around Kendal, is maybe half an hour. You can quite easily get to Lancaster in that time too.
