This is Millbarn. It’s in Golcar, just above Huddersfield. It’s a big, solid old stone place that dates back to the 1800s. It’s three storeys, grade II listed. We live next door.
It sleeps up to thirteen people in seven bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, so you do need to factor that in with a full house. It has a 4 Star rating, which means it’s comfortable and well-equipped. The main living space is open plan, so it’s good for everyone being together.
The views from here are good, over towards the moors and hills. The stairs are typical for an old building, so they’re a bit steep and turn corners.
Golcar is a weaver’s village. There’s a shop, a butcher’s, and a couple of pubs that do food and are dog-friendly. The Colne Valley Museum is here. They’ve put together these ‘Ginnel Trails’ you can follow around the village, which is a nice way to see it.
Huddersfield town centre is about four miles away for more shops and restaurants. The villages of Slaithwaite and Marsden are about a fifteen minute drive. They’ve got some good cafes and interesting shops.
If you want a spa day, Titanic Spa is about five minutes away by car. For walking, you can get up onto the local moors quickly. The Peak District National Park is about twenty minutes’ drive. The Yorkshire Dales are about an hour.
In terms of facilities, you’ve got a dishwasher, washing machine, TV, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. There’s a cot and a highchair if you need them. There’s parking on site. You can bring one well-behaved dog.
