Brian Clough Lodge is in Great Ayton. It's a lodge on that Roseberry View site by the lake. It's part of a small group of lodges built in 2019, so it's still pretty new.
It sleeps eight, but there are only three bedrooms. One of the beds is a big fold-out sofa thing in the living area. It's a proper mattress though, not the usual uncomfortable kind. Two bathrooms, which helps with that many people.
The lodge looks out over the private lake on the site. You get a good view of Roseberry Topping from the decking area. That's the famous local hill that looks a bit like a mountain that fell over. There's a hot tub on the deck. The kitchen is open plan with the living room and there's a wood burner for cooler nights.
There's a beer pump in the kitchen, so you can have draught beer if you bring your own barrel. It's a bit unusual, but it's there if you want it.
The site has some shared things. There's a sauna with a glass front that also looks at Roseberry Topping. A small kids' play area, a communal barbecue spot, and a little fenced area for dogs to run about. There's a boating lake on site too, but it's small.
You can walk into Great Ayton village. It's about a mile through fields on a public footpath. The village has a few shops, a couple of pubs, and a famous ice cream shop. The Cleveland Hills are right there for walking. You can walk up to Captain Cook's Monument or Roseberry Topping from nearby.
For a day out, the North York Moors are very close. Whitby is about a 30 minute drive. Middlesbrough, for the Captain Cook museum or shopping, is about 20 minutes the other way. The coast at Saltburn is also roughly half an hour.
Practical stuff: it's a 5 Star rating. All bedding and towels are included. There's a washing machine, dishwasher, TV, and WiFi. Parking is right outside the lodge. You can bring up to two dogs. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
