Captain Cook Lodge is on the Roseberry View Lodge Retreat site near Great Ayton. It's new, from 2019. It's one of ten lodges set around a private lake.
It sleeps six people. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms, which is useful. The rating is 5 Star, so everything's in good order. It's open plan inside, with a wood burner. There's a hot tub on the deck outside, and you look out over the lake towards Roseberry Topping. They've put a beer pump in the kitchen, which is a bit different.
On the site itself, there's a shared sauna with a glass front, so you get the same view. There's a small children's play area and a dog walk too, though this particular lodge doesn't take pets. There's also a small boating lake.
The village, Great Ayton, is about a mile away across fields on a footpath, or a short drive. There are shops, pubs, and a well-known ice cream and pie shop there. The closest pub and restaurant is about 600 yards from the site.
For things to do, Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook's Monument are right there on the horizon. You're on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The coast, like Whitby, is about a 30 minute drive. Middlesbrough, with its industrial heritage museums, is about 20 minutes the other way. The National Trust has several properties within a half hour, such as Ormesby Hall.
Facilities include all the basics: parking, WiFi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and highchair if you need them.
