Swallows Return

Swallows Return is a holiday cottage in Parton, near Whitehaven. It's in a converted farm barn that's part of the old Moresby Hall estate. The front of the barn is round, so the cottage has a curved wall at the front. It sleeps four.

The rating is 4 Star. It means it's comfortable and well-finished.

Both bedrooms are on the ground floor. One has a double bed. The other has a zip and link bed, which can be a super king or two singles. The bathroom is down there too. The living room is upstairs. It's a cosy space, good for relaxing in the evening.

Outside, you share a lawned garden area with the other cottages. There's parking right there.

The facilities are what you'd need. There's a washing machine, a TV, and all the bedding and towels are included.

You're close to the coast. Parton beach and the railway station are about three quarters of a mile away. The beach is stony, good for a walk. Whitehaven is two and a half miles along the coast. It's a proper town with supermarkets, shops, and places to eat. The harbour there has The Beacon Museum and the Rum Story attraction. There's also a sports centre with a pool.

A five minute walk gets you to the Rosehill Theatre and a restaurant. There's a local shop about a mile away for basics.

If you're here for the walking, you're in a good spot. St Bees Head, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a short drive south. That's where the Coast to Coast walk starts. Heading inland, you can be in the Lake District National Park in under a twenty minute drive. Ennerdale, which is very quiet and wild, is about ten miles. Places like Loweswater and Buttermere are within half an hour. The scenery is stunning.

Useful links for planning: Lake District National Park and National Trust Lake District.

No pets, sorry. The cottage can be booked with the one next door, Owls Retreat, if you're a larger group.
