This is Holme Cottage in Eastry. It’s a 17th-century cottage, which means it’s got low beams, uneven floors and an inglenook fireplace. But it’s also quite big for its age, so it doesn’t feel cramped.
It’s got two bedrooms, sleeps four, and one bathroom. There are two wood burners, one in the living room and one in the dining area. The kitchen has a dishwasher and washing machine. Everything works, but it’s 400 years old, so nothing is perfectly square. You accept that when you book it. It’s a 4 Star place, so it’s comfortable and clean.
Outside is a small courtyard. It’s enclosed but not huge. Fine for a coffee or sitting out in the evening.
You’re in the middle of the village, which is a conservation area. The local shop is 70 yards away, the pub and a restaurant are about 50 yards. It’s handy. You can walk to get what you need.
There are good walks straight from the door on public footpaths. If you drive, Sandwich is about ten minutes away. That’s where you’ll find Royal St George’s golf course. Deal and its castle are a 15 minute drive. Dover Castle and the White Cliffs are about 25 minutes. Canterbury is 25-30 minutes away. The coast at Sandwich Bay or Deal is a 15 minute drive.
It takes two dogs. Bedding and towels are included. There’s WiFi and a TV.
