The Thatch Cottage

The Thatch Cottage is in a hamlet called Daw's House, near Launceston in Cornwall. It's detached, so you're not sharing walls with anyone. The garden is on three different levels, with a deck on one of them. It's enclosed, which is good if you've got kids or a dog, but we don't allow pets, sorry.

It sleeps four. Two bedrooms, both doubles I think, and two bathrooms, which is handy. It's got a 3 Star rating. That means it's clean and everything works, but it's not a luxury hotel. It's a proper old cottage.

Because it's old, the ceilings are low in places. If you're over six foot, you'll need to watch your head on some of the beams. The doors are low too. The stairs are what you'd expect, a bit steep and winding. It's all part of the character.

There's a woodburning stove for cooler evenings. It heats the place up nicely. There's a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bedding is included. You can park right outside.

The local pub is about a mile away, a fifteen minute walk maybe. It's a proper country pub. The nearest shop is in Launceston, which is a bit further, about a mile and a quarter. Launceston has the basics: a supermarket, a castle, a golf course, and a steam railway.

You're pretty central here for exploring. You can get to the north coast, like Tintagel or Boscastle, in about half an hour. The south coast, around Looe or Polperro, is about the same. Dartmoor is about forty minutes drive.

If you're looking for things to do, the National Trust Cornwall page has lots of ideas. The Cornwall North Coast site is useful for that side of things.
