Barn Owl Shadoxhurst

Barn Owl is a bell tent on a farm near Shadoxhurst. It's the quiet part of Kent. The farm is 300 acres, with wildflower meadows and old woods you can walk in.

It sleeps two. There's a king-size bed in the tent, with bedding and towels provided. You get a couple of chairs and a small table, and a basket with basic crockery and cutlery. It's camping, just a bit more comfortable.

The kitchen and washing up are in a separate barn, a short walk from the tent. That's where the fridge-freezer is, and a sink with hot water. There's a camping stove in a covered shack outside. The toilet is in a converted horse trailer with flushing loos. The shower is in another shack behind it. There's also a shared composting toilet in the field for convenience at night.

The whole point is to be outside. There's a fire pit and a BBQ. You can sit and watch the fields. It's not fancy, it's a 2 Star rating, but it's clean and everything works.

If you want to go out, you're about half an hour from the coast at Hythe or Dymchurch. Ashford is 15 minutes for big shops. There are plenty of local pubs in the villages around.

For a day out, you're not far from the National Trust places in Kent, or Visit Kent has good ideas.

Things to know: It's a working farm, so there will be animals and farm noises. The walk to the barn for washing up is across a field. There are other bell tents on the farm, so you might see other guests. No pets.
