Railway Carriage Shadoxhurst

The Railway Carriage is on our farm in Shadoxhurst. It's exactly what it sounds like, an old railway carriage in an orchard. It's detached and you have the space to yourselves.

It sleeps two, just the one room. It's a 2 Star rating because it's quite basic. There's no electricity, you're off-grid. You've got battery-powered lights. The toilet is a composting loo a short walk from the carriage. The shower is in a separate shack nearby with hot water.

A few hundred yards away is the main barn. That's where you'll find a fridge-freezer, proper sofas by a wood burner, a sink with hot water for washing up, and plugs to charge your phone. There's also table tennis.

Outside the carriage, you've got chairs, a table, and a fire pit for cooking. Your neighbours are the free-range chickens.

The farm is about 300 acres. You can walk through the wildflower meadows and the woods. We get a lot of wildlife here: nightingales, barn owls at dusk, grass snakes, all sorts of butterflies. It's very quiet.

For things to do, Tenterden town is about a 15-minute drive. They've got shops and the Kent & East Sussex Railway steam train. The coast around Rye and Camber Sands is roughly half an hour away. Ashford is about 20 minutes for bigger shops.

A few practical things: bedding and towels are included. There's parking right by the carriage. No pets, sorry.
