The Old School House is in Eggleston, a village in the North Pennines. It's a converted Victorian schoolhouse. It's a solid stone building. The conversion was done to a high standard, so it's comfortable but it still has that old school feel.
It sleeps eight in four bedrooms. There are two bathrooms, one is an en-suite to the main bedroom. That main bedroom also has a small snug area off it. The stairs are the original ones, so they're quite grand but also a bit steeper than a modern staircase.
Downstairs is open plan at the back, with the kitchen and dining area. There's a separate living room at the front with a large TV. The whole ground floor has underfloor heating.
The village has a pub, it's very close. They do food. For shops, you'll need to drive to Barnard Castle, which is about four miles away. It's a nice market town with a proper high street, a castle, and The Bowes Museum. The museum is worth a visit.
You can walk straight from the door into the countryside. It's part of the North Pennines AONB. For a bigger forest with trails, Hamsterley Forest is about a 20-minute drive. Richmond is roughly half an hour north, with its castle and river.
Facilities: it has pretty much everything you'd need. Washing machine, dishwasher, WiFi, all bedding and towels. It's listed as luxury, which here means it's finished well and has things like the underfloor heating. We accept up to two dogs. There's a cot, highchair, and stairgate if you're bringing little ones.
