Pennies Retreat

Pennies Retreat is in Glossop. It's a small, end-terrace cottage and it's just for two people. One bedroom upstairs, one bathroom. It's got a 4 Star rating, which means it's comfortable and well looked after.

You come in through the front door into the main room. That's the kitchen, living area and breakfast bar all in one space. There's a back door out to the garden which lets in good light. The stairs go up from there to the bedroom and bathroom. The stairs are standard for a cottage, maybe a bit steeper than in a new house.

The garden is yours to use. It's patioed, not lawned, with a table and chairs. There's a washing machine and a tumble dryer in a cupboard upstairs. Everything else is what you'd expect: TV, WiFi, dishwasher, parking right outside. We include the bedding and towels. You can bring one dog.

Glossop is a proper market town. It's got shops, cafes, pubs, the lot. It's right on the edge of the Peak District National Park, so you can walk out of the door and be on a path in no time.

For walking, you're spoilt. The Longdendale Trail is close by, which is an old railway track past several reservoirs, so it's flat and easy. For something tougher, the path up to Kinder Scout from Snake Pass is about a 20 minute drive. That's proper moorland hiking. The Pennine Way crosses the Snake Pass too.

You can drive into the heart of the Peak District in under half an hour. Edale and Castleton are that way. Manchester is about the same drive in the other direction if you need a city day.
