Rose Rigg Cottage

Rose Rigg Cottage is in Smithfield, a quiet village in north Cumbria. It's a detached cottage, so no neighbours on the other side of the wall. There's a decent bit of parking right outside.

The cottage sleeps four. Two bedrooms, one bathroom. It's got a 3 Star rating, so it's comfortable and clean. The beds are good.

The main thing in the living room is the Aga. It's great in the winter, keeps the whole place warm. The kitchen has what you need, including a dishwasher and washing machine.

The garden's enclosed, which is useful if you've got little ones. There's a cot and highchair here if you need them.

Smithfield itself is small. There's a local pub. For a shop you'd drive to Longtown or Brampton, they're not far. Carlisle is about six miles away for bigger shops.

You're right on the edge of the North Pennines here for walking. Hadrian's Wall is a short drive away, you can walk sections of it. The Lake District National Park is within half an hour if you want the big hills and lakes.

Being so close to the border, Scotland is easy. Gretna Green is just over, and the Solway coast is about a twenty minute drive. Good for beach walks.

Facility-wise, it's all included: bedding, towels, electricity, wifi. There's a TV. Parking on site. No pets, sorry.

For planning trips, the National Trust North West and North Pennines AONB sites are useful.
