The Malthouse

The Malthouse is a big old place in Norton St Philip. It sleeps up to fourteen people across seven bedrooms. There are four bathrooms, which helps when you've got a full house.

It's a 5 Star place, which means it's well finished and comfortable. The building is Grade II listed. Parts of it are really old, from the 14th or 15th century. So the floors are uneven in places and some steps are worn. Just something to be aware of.

You come in through a heavy oak door into the old cart-way. The kitchen is downstairs, it's handmade and has everything you'd need. There's a big dining table by a Bath stone fireplace. Underfloor heating keeps it warm. Up the turret stairways you'll find the bedrooms. They're large, with good linen. One bedroom on the top floor has a glass wall looking right into the old roof structure, which is a unusual feature.

There's a utility room with an extra fridge, a washer and a dryer. The main sitting room has an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner. There's also a garden room with window seats looking out.

Outside, there's a courtyard and a large garden with a lawn. There's outdoor furniture, a big sofa, blankets, and some games like table tennis. You can bring up to two dogs.

The village has a pub, The George Inn, right next door. It's one of the oldest in the country. Bath is about a 15 minute drive away. From there you can get to lots of other places. Longleat is about half an hour. Stonehenge is roughly 45 minutes. Glastonbury Tor is around 40 minutes away.

For planning, these sites are useful: National Trust South West and for Bath specifically, Bath World Heritage.

Facilities include all the basics: WiFi, TV, dishwasher, parking on site. Bedding and towels are included. There's a cot and a highchair if needed.
