Herons Weir is on the edge of Frome, down a no-through road by the river. It’s one of two cottages converted from an old workshop. It looks right out over the weir and Jeffries Mill sluice. You get your own bit of garden right by the water to sit out in.
It sleeps five. Three bedrooms and four bathrooms, so everyone gets their own. It’s done up to a high standard. Oak doors, marble floors with underfloor heating downstairs. A 4 Star rating. It’s comfortable.
The town centre is about a mile and a half away. Frome’s got the cobbled streets, little streams running down, and good independent shops. There’s a weekly market and a big monthly one that takes over the town. There’s a shop and a pub about the same distance.
You can sit by the river and watch the wildlife. We see herons, kingfishers, dippers. Fish jump. Sometimes you might spot an otter.
There are plenty of good walks from the door along the river and into the countryside, usually ending at a village pub. For a day out, you’ve got Longleat House and Safari Park about twenty minutes away. Wells Cathedral is lovely, that’s half an hour. Glastonbury Tor and the Abbey are about twenty-five minutes. The Roman Baths in Bath are a half hour drive. Cheddar Gorge is about forty minutes.
Facilities: wood burner, BBQ, dishwasher, washing machine, TV, WiFi. Bedding and towels are included. Parking on site. No pets.
