The Rubbing House is near Chichester, on Saint Roche's Hill. It’s a big house in a clearing in the woods. It sleeps sixteen, with seven bedrooms and five bathrooms. It’s a 5 Star place, so it’s well done and feels quite grand.
It’s really two parts. There’s the main house, which sleeps most people, and then a separate one-bedroom annexe called Yew Cottage. Between them, they cover all the space. There’s also a separate music room with a bed in it.
The main drawing room is very large, with high ceilings and a big fireplace. The kitchen leads into the dining room, which has a big table. Upstairs, some of the bedrooms have views south over the Sussex countryside.
Outside, there are a couple of outbuildings. One is a games room with table tennis and a snooker table. The other is the music room. The grounds are large, with a lawn and a woodland trail. You can walk straight out of the gate onto the footpaths across the South Downs. The Trundle, which is an old hill fort, is right next door.
It’s a secluded spot. The nearest pub is about a mile and a half away. The shop is a bit further. For a bigger town, Chichester is about twenty minutes by car. It has the cathedral, the theatre, and the Romans at Fishbourne. The coast at Chichester Harbour or West Wittering Beach is about half an hour.
You’re on the edge of the Goodwood Estate. The racecourse is very close. The motor circuit and Goodwood House, where they hold the Festival of Speed and the Revival, are just up the road. There are two golf courses nearby as well.
What’s here: all the bedding and towels are included. There’s parking. There’s a washing machine, dishwasher, wood burning stoves, and wifi. We allow one well-behaved dog.
