Wells-next-the-Sea is a great gateway to the beautiful North Norfolk coast, with its much-photographed quay and quaint narrow-gauge railway that takes you to the wide sandy beach. Travel east or west from here and you will find a coastline line littered with pretty villages, with sandy and shingle beaches, marshes and quays, all of which make great terrain for sunbathing, swimming, walking, cycling, water sports and bird watching. For those interested in the local wildlife, the well-known Norfolk Wildlife Trust Cley Marshes nature reserve, Titchwell Marshes reserve and Pensthorpe Natural Park are all under 12 miles from the cottage and boat trips to view the colonies of seals are available from nearby Blakeney and Morston. The Sealife Sanctuary at Hunstanton, and the Dinosaur Adventure Park at Lenwade are also easily accessible. This perfect bolt hole is under 2 miles away from the picturesque village of Walsingham, with shops including an award-winning farm shop and deli, which specialises in Norfolk produce, along with pubs, a café, restaurant, shrine, abbey and priory ruins.
A short drive could also take you to either the lovely Georgian village of Burnham Market or to the market town of Holt, both boasting an array of specialist independent shops, galleries, antique shops, pubs and restaurants.
