Adjoining the owner’s home, the Den is in a quiet area on the edge of Taynuilt with stunning views of Ben Cruachan. The Den has been carefully prepared for you by highly experienced host, with all the home comforts you need. Stylish and fun, warm and cosy, the Den has a welcoming open-plan living room/diner/kitchen with an enamelled wood-burning stove and feature fireplace to snuggle around on the colder days. You’ll always be cosy, as there’s also fantastic central heating feeding large radiators in every room. There is a lovely sitting area with comfy sofas where you can enjoy Freesat satellite TV, radio/CD and a selection of CDs. There’s plenty of space to relax, including a thoughtfully provided desk space with powering unit for laptops/phones etc, and superfast Wi-Fi/broadband. The fully equipped kitchen area has everything you’ll need to self-cater in style, and enjoy socialising together whilst cooking! There’s endless hot water to enjoy a luxurious soak in the stylish downstairs bathroom with over-bath shower.
Upstairs there’s a spacious, lovely bedroom with an extremely comfortable kingsize bed with memory mattress, walk-in wardrobe, occasional seating and large picture window overlooking Ben Cruachan. The Den has its own entrance with private parking, and outside you can relax in your own private suntrap garden with outdoor seating and barbecue. You also have a handy porch with hooks and racks for drying coats and boots. There’s also an outside drying area and utility cupboard with washing machine and tumble dryer.
Perfect as a base for exploring the castles, hills, woodlands, coastlines and islands of Argyll, Cruachan Den is quiet and rural, yet conveniently very close to the A85 for easy access to many Argyll attractions. Taynuilt village centre is just a 5-minute walk with a main line railway station, a general store, post office, butchers, hairdressers, café, craft shop and a 9-hole golf course. There is a lovely beach, glen and forest walks close by and you’re within walking distance of Loch Etive looking up towards Glencoe. Nearby is the beautiful Loch Awe and fantastic forestry walks through nearby Fearnoch and Glen Nant.
Ben Cruachan offers more challenging walking but can be viewed from all around. You can also visit inside the mountain at the Hollow Mountain Visitor Centre. There are several inns and hotels serving food within 10 minutes’ drive. Ideal for walkers and cyclists, The Den sits close to the rual lane network forming part of the National Cycle Route 78, which stretches from Oban to Fort William.
You can reach the busy west coast town of Oban, the Gateway to the Isles, within a 12-mile drive along the main road or through enchanting Glen Lonan. Oban has an interesting selection of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants, a whisky distillery and various supermarkets. You can catch a short ferry trip from Oban to one of the Inner Hebrides, including Mull, Staffa and Iona. There is plenty to do in the area and loads of attractions for days out, including trips to Glencoe, Ben Nevis, and the islands of Kerrera and Easdale to name but a few.
