Situated at the head of Glenachulish, Glenhead is a truly brilliant cottage tucked away in a beautiful valley with forests, mountains and the sea all in sight. Now the cottage itself is also very attractive. Semi-detached but very private, you have a decking area by the front door that hosts a table and chairs. Facing south you’ll be able to enjoy all meals of the day in this sheltered, sunny spot. Entering the front door there is a vestibule area and then a hallway that draws you towards the living room. It’s a fabulous room with a window that frames the Dragon’s Tooth brilliantly. There is an open fire and a lot of space for four people. Through the living room is the kitchen with all that you will need and then a conservatory with more seating and the dining space. Back to the hallway, and on the other side of the cottage, you will find the two lovely bedrooms. There is a double and twin room, both spacious and like the rest of the house decorated in a caring way to highlight the features of the property. It has been finished beautifully by the owner. There is also a spacious family bathroom.
Glenachulish is just off of the Argyll Coastal Route near to Ballachulish and world-famous Glencoe. Fort William is only half an hour up the road and Oban is 45 minutes to the south. Being based at Glenhead gives you the best of both worlds; you’re in a Scottish Highlands paradise with mountains and forests surrounding you, whilst at the same time you have Glencoe, Glen Etive, Rannoch Moor, Ben Nevis, Glenfinnan, the list goes on and on, all within a short drive to go and explore.
Glenhead is really special though because of its setting. The owner has done a wonderful job nurturing a lovely garden that’s a pleasure to roam around and sit in to enjoy different views. You can sit and look south up the glen to the distinctive mountain Sgorr Dhonuill or Dragon’s Tooth, or take up a different vantage point and gaze north across Loch Linnhe. With the constant backdrop of the glen burn trickling through the woods nearby, the garden is a peaceful and magical setting that welcomes a wide array of wildlife. You’ll spot deer and many birds as well as also a family of characterful red squirrels.
There are great walks from the doorstep, including up to the ridge of the Dragon’s Tooth but also along the many tracks in the forestry in the glen. There is also the Sustrans route 78 also known as The Caledonia Way which passes through the glen. The 234 mile route between Inverness and Kintyre is a brilliant way to explore the area by bike or on foot. Another highlight of this location is the undiscovered golf course only minutes walk away from Glenhead. The Dragon’s Tooth golf course has been described as ’the best 9 hole course in Scotland’ and with its clever design, well-kept greens and fairways as well as the extraordinary scenic background. The course has a brilliant clubhouse with food, drinks and great WiFi. Shop 3½ miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
