Taransay Cottage is a traditional railway worker’s cottage and retains some of the original features, like the traditional open fire-place. Situated in the very heart of the Highlands at Bridge of Orchy situated on the West Highland Way long distance walk and next to the historic West Highland Railway Line to Fort William, one of the top 10 rail journeys in the world. There are around 8 trains a day passing slowly by giving you the opportunity to wave to the train drivers - and look out for the occasional steam train or classic diesel excursion. Cosily heated with electric central heating, complemented by the welcoming open fire, you will feel cosy and warm in Taransay Cottage.
There is a well-equipped kitchen diner enjoying panoramic views over the garden and mountains, with patio doors opening onto the lovely woodland garden. The two bedrooms sleep four people on great quality, comfy beds, offering a master bedroom featuring a stunning Super King-size Scotch Pine bed with en-suite shower room and another spacious bedroom featuring a Super King-size bed which can be made up as two single beds on request. There is also a family bathroom with a large walk-in shower.
The beautiful wild woodland garden is set up to allow you to appreciate the nature surrounding the cottage, with views of the mountains and a summerhouse provides the ideal place for a glass of wine whilst watching for the local wildlife and birds. The River House at the bottom of the garden has views over a waterfall, the river Orchy and beyond towards the Glencoe hills. You can walk from the cottage onto the West Highland Way, to paths, hills, rivers, and forests. There is a Hotel just minutes away for meals and drinks . The River Orchy is a renowned white-water sports river and popular fishing spot. There are several shops, supermarkets and hotels, pubs and eating places at nearby Tyndrum, just ten minutes’ drive.
Surrounded by the most breath-taking scenery of mountains and lochs, there is a large range of sports and outdoor activities available in the area, including winter sports, hill walking, climbing, mountaineering, fishing and water sports, mountain biking and golfing. You can plan day trips to Loch Lomond, Glencoe, Oban, Loch Ness, Fort William and onwards to the Isle of Skye. More locally at Loch Awe you can visit Kilchurn Castle, St Conan’s Kirk, Cruachan visitor centre or take the road to historic Inverary.
