A bustling west coast harbour town, Oban has lots going on for the visitor at any time of the year. Central for touring Argyll and known as the “Gateway to the Isles”, with ferries leaving daily to many of islands, such as Mull, Iona, Staffa, Lismore. Loads of outdoor sports to enjoy locally, a hilly challenging golf course, bike hire close-by and a kayaking centre which launches into Oban Bay. In keeping with its reputation as the Seafood Capital of Scotland, there are some excellent restaurants, cafes and pubs nearby, for relaxing after a pleasant day out exploring all the wonderful scenery and interesting attractions which Argyll has to offer. Just two miles’ drive along the coastal road, there is a lovely sandy beach at Ganavan and some great walks. Dunollie, Dunstaffnage and Kilchurn Castles are some of the nearby castles to visit as part of a day’s sightseeing. Further afield but within an hour’s drive, visitors can enjoy the scenery of Glencoe, visit to Inveraray to enjoy the Castle or infamous Jail, take a trip to Fort William to see Ben Nevis or catch the steam train to Mallaig.
